This is a free and easy class for children from the age of two and a half to five years. It is a great introduction to dance in a relaxed environment. We have a general warm up and learn some basic ballet steps, expressive movement, song and dance and modern stage. Parents are able to stay and watch this class.
Stages School of Dance follows the syllabus of NCDTA, however we also use a lot of our own work and ideas to enhance the training of our students. Our teachers choreograph all of their own dances and we vary the work by using all different styles of music and choreography. Our training incorporates the classical, contemporary and lyrical genres.
We follow the NCDTA syllabus and add our own routines and dances to cover all styles of Tap, from the typical English style to American, which is looser and more “into the ground”. Tap Dancing can be done to any style of music from classical to street and we encourage our students to develop experience in all of these genres. We pride ourselves on teaching an excellent standard of tap and have a great success rate in exams and competitions.
Modern Stage / Jazz
We always commence our Modern Stage classes with a good warm up and stretch which cuts down the risk of injuries and encourages the students to become stronger and more flexible. All styles are covered within this genre, including – Cabaret, Musical Theatre, Lyrical and Fast and Slow Jazz.
Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers are taught numerous techniques to develop and improve strength and to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. Contemporary dance stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet. Contemporary dancers focus on floorwork, using gravity to pull them down to the floor. This dance genre is often done in bare feet.
This covers a very wide range of dance styles including Disco, Lyrical, Hip Hop and Street. Classes always begin with an excellent warm up and stretch. Our teachers are very keen to keep up to date with all the latest trends and keep their classes fresh and interesting. These classes are popular with students of all ages!
These classes involve singing, acting and dance. Singing exercises to strengthen the vocals chords and songs of various different styles from classical musical theatre to pop/jukebox musicals. We also give our students scripts to learn that we evolve over the weeks into acting scenes and dance numbers. Theatre Craft is also covered in these classes.
