Intermediate/Senior Commercial Jazz
Commercial Freestyle dance is an artistic dance style. A modern, varied and expressive dance style that is creative, imaginative, inventive and original. It takes its roots from co-ordinating accented body movements together with a number of basic steps. It involves runs, spins, kicks and leaps, as well as many other diverse steps and movements with lots of arm and hand actions. Freestyle covers a number of different genres within the overall title, such as Hip Hop, Urban, Disco, Rock & Roll and Commercial. The music can be fast and rhythmic or slow, lyrical and sensuous, allowing dancers of all ages to use freedom of expression to enhance their style. This is being taught and developed by teachers and they can build on the technique developing their own choreography and style. Because of this, it is always developing and moving forward, taking into account modern trends and music. Popular culture influences many aspects of people’s lives and this style of dance is no exception. Movies, music videos, music, clothes and hair fashion all have an effect on the development of the style. It allows the individual dancer freedom to express themselves from within these criteria to produce movement. Freestyle dancers are encouraged to add their own individual interpretation and personality to their performance, but they must always base their performance on the technique of Commercial Freestyle Dance. Our teachers provide a trusted safe environment for students to enjoy and develop their love, interest and talent for dance. Commercial Jazz is known to be a highly choreographed dance form. It features a mixture of sharp and fluid movements, popping & locking and animated expression similar to dances seen on commercial pop videos.
